Biomedical Composites- Design Challenge

Biomedical Composites- Design Challenge / Design Technology / Senior Grade 12 / Engineer Better Medicines

In this module, students are split into groups and presented with a joint or body part at random. Each group must then establish a set of design criteria, and choose a type of composite material accordingly. Groups then must present their choices to the class. By the end of the lesson, students will be able to apply knowledge of forces and composite materials to select an ideal composite material given a particular set of design criteria.

Note: this module is designed to reinforce composite materials concepts after they are covered in class, rather than serve as an introduction to composites. If students aren't familiar with composites, spend more time on the presentation, and consider including supplemental resources, before starting the activity.

Below are the materials for this module.
